TEACHING
METHOD: My goal as an educator of your Son(s)/Daughter(s) is to
play a facilitative role in their development of Spirituality and
understanding of Social Studies. I will use methods that will allow a
safe, fun, cooperative learning environment where they can flourish
their minds and their faith. I will use my talents of poetic expression
and my strong connection in my spiritual life to inspire and instruct
all at the same time. And most importantly I will never give up in my
goal of seeing your child succeed as a student of Good Shepherd Catholic
School.
** Although homework is
posted weekly, it is the student's responsibility to write down daily
assignments from the board. Weekly assignments posted on this site are subject
to change. **

Grade Summer Math Assignment
|
Dear Future 6th
Grade Math Parents,
Next year your
child will be entering middle school and they will have new and
exciting experiences. In addition, they will have more
responsibilities and greater expectations. In order to reduce the
need to re-teach skills previously learned, students are being
asked to complete a summer math assignment. They must complete
the following workbook; Summer Solutions – Intermediate A
by Nancy McGraw (ISBN 978-1934210-26-0). This book
costs about $15.00 and can be ordered by calling toll-free
1-877-382-7537 or via the internet at
www.SimpleSolutions.org.
I feel it is
very important to review math skills over the summer and the
completed book will count as the first four grades for next
year. In addition to some help pages, the answers are all
provided in the back of the book. All work must be shown and
will be collected the second day of school. Your child may
solve the problems in the square spaces provided or on a separate
sheet of paper. (All work must be organized and neat)
There may be a
few problems that your child cannot solve independently, however
they should be able to complete about 75% of the book. This
summer program has been designed as a tool for “sustained
practice” and review of skills over the summer. Do not allow
your child to complete the book all at once. The publishers
suggest 3 times a week for about 10 weeks. Each of the 30 lessons
contains 20 problems and I am confident that we will all see the
benefits in the up coming school year.
Please check
your child’s work after they have finished each lesson with a
pen. Have them highlight any problems they don’t know how to
solve or are truly unsure of. We will try to review as much of
these skills as possible, the first week of school. (Remember,
there are sample problems in the back of the book for additional
support)
Please be sure to check
the school website for the Summer Reading Summer assignment and
the supply list.
If you have
any questions or require more information, please feel free to
contact me at
eighth@good-shepherd-school.org. I look forward to a
wonderful school year. Thank you for your support and I wish you
and your family a very blessed and safe summer.
