Text Box: Summer Reading List
Incoming Fifth Graders
The Whipping Boy by Sid Fleischman
Activity: At the end of the book, Prince Brat learns many lessons.  What changes do you think he is going to make to his kingdom? Pretend that you are Prince Brat.  On a piece of paper, write 5 rules for your kingdom. Remember to make your paper look like if was created during Medieval times.
Everything on a Waffle by Polly Horvath
Activity:  Choose 3 characters from the story.  Then choose a recipe that the person would like to eat based on their personality.  For example, if one of the characters is always sweet, they might enjoy something sweet such as pie.  The name of your recipe should include the character’s name. For example: “Sweet as Miss Diaz Pie.” Include the steps you would need to follow in order to make your recipe.  Draw a picture at the bottom of each recipe showing your character eating that particular food.
** The above activities are due on the 2nd day of school.
